Occupational therapists in the school-based setting are professionals who provide support under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (AOTA, 2013). These professionals provide ongoing services for children to promote academic performance through the use of meaningful occupation such as play, leisure, and activities of daily living (AOTA, 2013).
