A student’s “occupations” in the classroom are often affected by fine motor difficulties. A common reason for occupational therapy referrals in the school-based setting is for handwriting or fine motor concerns (AOTA, 2013). Many times, these referrals are from the teacher, and the occupational therapist and teacher will work together to evaluate the student’s skills and treat any underlying causes of fine motor concerns (AOTA, 2013).
