Children’s difficulties with processing sensory information and the environment around them can affect their daily, functional performances such as communication, self-cares, cognition, and physical skills (AOTA, 2013). Occupational therapy addresses these sensory processing concerns and helps to develop strategies for the child and the teacher to use in the classroom (AOTA, 2013). By addressing sensory processing concerns, an occupational therapist can help the student to decrease stress and inappropriate behaviors that are affecting the student’s daily tasks in the classroom (AOTA, 2013).
